Frequently Asked Questions

Scharbauer Foundation primarily considers requests from nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, governmental entities, healthcare organizations, and qualified community-serving organizations.

In most cases, funding is limited to projects and organizations that demonstrate clear benefit to Midland residents and the surrounding community. The Foundation’s geographic scope, in order of priority, includes the city of Midland, Midland County, and the city of Odessa.

Funding priorities are centered around four primary areas:

• Education
• Healthcare
• Human Services
• Quality of Place

The Foundation generally prefers supporting capital projects, facility improvements, equipment purchases, program expansion efforts, and strategic initiatives that create long-term community impact.

Some operational or program-related support may be considered when directly tied to community impact and organizational growth, though capital and strategic initiatives are generally prioritized.

The Foundation typically does not fund sponsorship-only requests or one-time fundraising events.

The Foundation does not fund consecutive-year requests for general operating or project support.

Applications must be submitted through the Foundation’s online grant portal.

Applicants should be prepared to provide organizational information, project details, financial documentation, budgets, timelines, and information regarding anticipated community impact.

The online portal allows applicants to save progress and return to complete applications prior to submission.

Foundation staff may reach out for additional information, clarification, or follow-up questions during the review process if needed.

Scharbauer Foundation’s grant cycle process takes approximately five months from the pre-application window to final funding decisions. The Spring Grant Cycle opens in January and concludes with funding decisions in May. The Fall Grant Cycle opens in July and concludes with funding decisions in December.

• Financial responsibility and sustainability
• Measurable outcomes and long-term value

Organizations receiving funding are required to submit follow-up reports, updates, or financial documentation related to the funded project or program.
